A Year-Long Adventure in Starting Fresh Expressions of Church

You feel it, don’t you?

An idea for mission that has cropped up in your mind and heart that you can’t shake.
A love for people who are just not into traditional church.
A quiet but persistent nudge from the Spirit: “What if…?”

What if it were possible to connect up with other people who are feeling some of these same things? And together, you stepped into some of these stirrings with a trusted guide. The Pioneer Cohort is for women and men who sense God inviting them to explore something new — not by abandoning the Church, but by joining Jesus for an adventure in the everyday spaces where life already happens.

A year together listening deeply.
Practicing courage.
Growing in confidence.
Experimenting faithfully.
And praying boldly.

The Fresh Expression Pathway

We begin with a deep dive into the Loving-First Journey — the heartbeat of Fresh Expressions.

Before events.
Before worship.
Before structures.

We practice presence. We cultivate curiosity. We build friendships. We learn to notice where God is already at work.

You won’t be pushed to start something prematurely. Instead, you’ll be formed into the kind of leader who can cultivate something that can grow deep.

A Sustainable Rhythm for Real Life

This cohort meets every other month over the course of a year — creating steady momentum without overwhelming your calling, your church, or your family life.

Between gatherings, you’ll experiment gently in your context:

  • Trying small practices
  • Paying attention to what emerges
  • Reflecting on what you’re learning
  • Adjusting as you go

What You’ll Experience

Guided Practices That Build Confidence

You won’t just hear about mission — you’ll practice it. Exercises and fieldwork between gatherings help you grow real skills in listening, relationship-building, and community formation.

Theological Grounding

Teaching segments anchor your experimentation in biblical principles and missional theology so your innovation is deeply rooted.

Contextual Discernment

Your context matters. Urban or rural. Suburban neighborhood, recovery space, gym, coffee shop, dinner table. We help you pay attention to your people and your place — not copy someone else’s model.

Peer Learning & Encouragement

You’ll gather every other month with a cohort of like-hearted pioneers who understand both the excitement and vulnerability of this work. You’ll share stories, wrestle with challenges, and celebrate small signs of life together.

This Is For You If…

  • You feel called to reach people beyond the walls of traditional church.
  • You want formation as much as strategy.
  • You’re ready to experiment without the pressure of immediate outcomes.
  • You desire companions on the journey.
  • You’re energized by relationships more than programs.

Imagine a Year From Now

You’ve built meaningful relationships.
You’ve gathered a few people around shared life.
You’ve practiced listening to the Spirit in real time.
You’ve grown in courage.
You’ve learned from peers.
You’ve taken risks — and discovered God’s faithfulness.

Will you have a full-blown, active Fresh Expression of Church? Maybe. Or maybe you will have a faithful experiment, a handful of deepening relationships, and a growing trust that this is the Lord’s work. Regardless, we are convinced that a year of walking with God and others in the Loving-First journey will deepen your faith and your sense of purpose in surprising and life-giving ways.

We are currently inviting those who are interested to submit an interest form. As we see a critical mass emerging, we will schedule and communicate the start of the next Pioneer Cohort.
